The Marlyn E. Lugar Courtroom, named after a prominent former West Virginia professor and jurist, is used for legal education, invited lectures, and moot court competitions, as well as by the West Virginia Supreme Court and even the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Pre-law students at Potomac State College are advised by a member of the legal profession who helps students choose a major that will facilitate their access to a law college upon completion of the BA or BS. Students should consult with the Pre-Legal Advisor regarding an appropriate major and select POLS 210, Law and Legal System, as an option within their chosen degree and major. West Virginia University – School of Law is the only college in West Virginia that offers an online Master of Legal Studies or similar degree. The Centre for Law and Public Service promotes public service by providing students with opportunities to engage in public interest law, promoting dialogue on current legal services and policy issues, and encouraging students to become leaders in seeking creative solutions to achieve equal access to justice in society. The centre offers several opportunities for student public services, including the Public Service Day School Program, the Pro Bono Program, and the Public Interest Advocates Summer and Postgraduate Scholarship Programs. While WVU`s reasonable tuition and fees are excellent value for money, the College of Law recognizes that many students cannot afford the full cost of a legal education without financial aid. Funds are available in the form of tuition waivers, scholarships and federal student loans. Even if the student has not been accepted to law school, he or she should apply for financial aid by October 1. Learn more about WVU`s online Master of Legal Studies program through a one-on-one appointment with program coordinator Carla See. WVU Law`s Meredith Career Services Center offers career counseling, professional development workshops, interview programs, and job search strategy sessions as part of a comprehensive career services program. The objectives of the Career Services Centre are to educate students about possible careers in law, to encourage them to identify and set career goals, and to help them achieve those goals. Students in the program will graduate from JD in May, be able to write the bar exam in July, and complete their LLM requirements in the fall.
